Just why Charlie didn\'t let Noam answer the question \'he\' asked, about any big question about linguistics that Noam would love to be able to answer, I don\'t know. I do know that I would love to have heard Chomsky finish his answer. Thanks Charlie.
I think it\'s worth clarifying the date of the interview, the date of its original broadcast, and the date of the posting of the video here where possible.
The Charlie Rose website lists the show date as Nov. 11, 2003. The Znet posting appears to be Dec. 21, 2007.
Thanks Znet. I hadn\'t seen this conversation. It seems quite constructive, a somewhat unusual status for a discussion broadcast and viewed so widely. Credit to the Charlie Rose show for doing it.
Charlie Rose has the socio-political insight of a peanut compared to Noam. But then again, that could probably be said for most people. I am grateful though that Rose dedicated almost an hour to Noam, which is so unusual and valuable.
We love you Noam. Thanks for your passion, your dedication, your humanity.
Thanks for providing us such quality ammunition to fight this war - the real war on terror.
It\'s so easy to feel alone in this fight, in this mission. Myself, I am lucky enough to have a community of like-minded individuals that have focus and passion to work for change in our society. Even so, through you, I (and we) have come to realise there is a much larger community (such as those here at Znet) that are equally dedicated to bringing change also.
The work, the battle seems to me to be one. Though we may fight on separate flanks, oblivious (perhaps) to the struggles of our brothers and sisters on the other side of the street, the other side of the mountain, the other side of the ocean, the fight against ignorance and dogma, against oppressive, exploitative forces is the one war.
That you equip us with knowledge is one thing, that you inspire (by your example) the doggedness of spirit to continue fighting despite seemingly overwhelming forces, despite no end in sight, this to to me the most valuable gift you bring.
And always (in true anarchistic spirit) you lead us to find our own answers, to seek our own truth, to forge our own path to understanding encouraging our own innate wisdom light the way. For of course, how else can it be? Lest we become automatons of a different nature leading to a different ruin...
Noam Chomsky is so incredible. His logic is impenetrable, his knowledge of ...... everything is stupendous! How anyone can listen to this man and not be convinced of his accuracy, his prescience, his correctness, is beyond me.
