Tramore Community Radio is a station located in the south east of Ireland in a town of about 12, 000.
We hope to be on air my Autumn and every weekend from then on. Eventually we hope to be awarded a full community licence enabling us to broadcast full-time.
Rather than view this group as an exercise in helping one station get going, I hope this group shall be useful to anyone trying to establish a similar entity.
We are very keen to explore the theoretical underpinnings of community, participation, knowledge, awareness, involvement and so on.
With a view to this we are actively trying to ascertain metrics which may be used before we go on air to help quantify what exactly a community is comprised of and if we can increase levels of social capital in the stations catchment area.
