BOYCOTT 2012!

By Lee, Terri at Oct 03, 2012 15:18 PM

The strongest action the left can take in ELECTION 2012 is to BOYCOTT!

A movement for this is well underway.

In the presidential race I would rather vote third party. In congressional and senate races, I would still vote Dem. Half the population doesn't vote as it is. Not voting accomplishes nothing.

That is not correct, Carl

Please google 'Election Boycott' and you will see that this tactic is frequently used
world-wide to delegitimize governments and to go up against electoral fraud.

What is ineffective is wasting your vote on a guaranteed loser.

There is something that we can do. Something nonviolent, legal, risk-free, and with the potential to delegitimize the government.

Notice that I didn't say overthrow, abolish, or replace it, but just delegitimize it. That would be a change--for people in the US to say that our government's policies don't represent us and we won't vote for a government that doesn't represent us.- Mark E Smith

I know Chris Hedges has been talking about this recently. I believe he is of the opinion that people should stop voting altogether. This will remove the last shreds of respectability from the corrupt revolving door system of left/right politics.

He argues that it would be far better to engage in massive, peaceful public protest and action. The immediate and violent way in which OWS was put down, I think, shows the fear that the system has about people being empowered and lends credence to his thoughts.

Hello Tom,
Your comment about Chris Hedges supporting the Election Boycott is of interest to me. Do you have a link or a statement on this?

Thanks,
Terri

Dear Terri,

I apologize, but I don’t have the exact reference. It was from a YouTube video of a presentation he was making. During the Q&A session at the end of the video the topic came up. But I think he talks about it during practically every interview these days (due to its topicality with the upcoming elections).

He also talked about during the recall election of Scott Walker in Wisconsin.  I found an interview in which he mentions it (it’s during the response to the 8th question in the interview):

Good luck

Cheers

80% Voter Turnout in Venezuela

By Lee, Terri at Oct 08, 2012 04:16 AM

HIGH VOTER TURNOUT -- 80%! -- BOOSTS CHAVEZ'S CREDENTIALS!

REUTERS: "....turnout of 80 percent will boost Chavez's democratic credentials...."

Venezuela has one of the most trustworthy electoral systems worldwide. As a result, it
enjoys high voter turnout. There is a strong correlations between high election
integrity and high voter turnout.

And this is the VALUE of the ELECTION BOYCOTT -- and that is to DIMINISH the credentials of the (s)elected RULER in November!

I would say that that the US has one of the most trustworthy electoral systems in the world as well, even allowing for the events of the 2000 election. The fact that the outcome was a statistical tie in a country of 300 million tells us just how little difference there is between the candidates / parties.

The problem, as I see it, isn’t the integrity of the electoral system.  The problem is the integrity of the electoral candidates.

And you just have to love the “impartial” journalism over at Reuters. That article had all of the pre-programmed buzz words that we use when we want to vilify a Nation.
