This is a proposal for a universal PPS logo. The design is influenced by the interaction of the four spheres of social life.

The idea behind the logo

By Chrysostomou, Jason at Oct 23, 2008 03:54 AM

When designing the logo my intention was to create something that was visually appealing and distinguishable, but also had meaning. The ‘four spheres of society’ representing: polity, economy, kinship and community/culture, come from the complementary holist conceptual framework developed in liberating theory that has been a cornerstone for much of participatory vision. If anyone is not familiar with it, I suggest that they read ‘liberating theory’ or some articles relating to it on zcom. Essentially, it presents a totalist or holistic conceptual framework of society that doesn’t elevate the importance of any one social sphere over another and recognises the interconnection of all the spheres. Holism means many parts acting together to form an entwined whole. Although, open to personal opinion, I chose colours that tried to encapsulate main trends in social movements; black, from anarchy; red, from socialism; pink, from feminism; green from community and ecology. Of course, the choice of colours is subjective but I think these colours are more representative than others I can think of. The design can also be interpreted in other ways too, for example, as a growing flower symbolising the growth of our movement from the bottom up.

Which colours represent what sphere, or is that for each of us to decide?

Nice work.

The design is good and it is practical as well -   I found it useful to point at this logo (on a leaflet) when expaining PPS and liberating theory to folks at this years UK Anarchist book fair.

Well done Jason!

It would be nice to hear what the logo is meant to symbolize. What did you try to convey through this logo? (or is it just meant to look pretty :-)

Black and White

By Le Guen, Yoann at Oct 22, 2008 03:09 AM

Hi,

Looks good to me.

I was a bit worried about how it would like in black and white (as you all\"\" know lots of prints are done in B&W to save cost).

Well I\'ve had a go at changing in B&W and it still looks good to me.

I\'ll don\'t know how to upload pictures with this site yet. Jason can youput the B&W version online too?

Thanks

Yoann
