The concern over global warming has now reached a stage that even the Pentagon is producing studies about the severe threat of global warming within the next twenty or thirty years. One serious prediction is that there could be a fairly sudden shift in the Gulf Stream, which would turn northern Europe into Labrador and Greenland, and might turn large parts of the United States into desert. Rising sea levels could wipe out Bangladesh and kill who knows how many people. The most arable lands in Pakistan may become like the Sahara. The effects of all of this are indescribable. Are we doing anything about it? No. We don't care. Meaning planners don't care. it's not part of their framework. If ou're a corporate manager, you don't care about what's going to happen ten years from now. You have to make sure you get your big bonus and stock options next year, not ten years from now. That's somebody else's department. This fanatic ideology is built into the institutional structure. You can't even blame individuals....It's like what Hannah Arendt said about Adolf Eichmann. You do your job. Other considerations aren't part of your domain.
