The Great Saskatchewan Tar Sands Debate
Andrew Nikiforuk, author of The Alberta Tar Sands - Dirty Oil and the Future of a Continent, is on a cross-Canada tour to discuss the political, environmental, labour and economic dimensions of the energy mega-project that is the tar sands.
His visit to Saskatchewan in March will take him to a number of centres, including Regina.
Here in the Queen City, he will debate Dr. Carolyn Preston of the Petroleum Technology Research Centre on March 19th at 7:00pm.
This debate will be held in the U of R's Education Auditorium, with doors opening at 6:30pm. There is no charge to attend the debate, though a collection plate will be passed to cover costs. More information can be found by calling Don Narine at 306-527-4566.
The debate over Saskatchewan's place in the North American and global energy economies of tomorrow is becoming ever more serious. Nikiforuk's tour--including his visit to Regina and other Saskatchewan communities--will make an important contribution to that public conversation.

Ah yes, the tar sands... my nemesis. Imagine it were to be shut down- what type of civil disobedience would that take? I jump straight to disobedience because I don't think our dear policy makers will let let that cash cow slip from their grasp.
I read this article, however :
