For the eighteenth year running, the United Nations has voted against the USA embargo on Cuba.
The assembly passed a non-binding resolution -- with 187 votes in favour, three against and two abstentions. The following voted against:
- USA
- Israel
- Pilau
The following abstained:
- Marshall Islands
- Micronesia
Now, what became of "Change we can believe in"

Apologies

Apologies for my ignorance - Pilau should read Palau.

Yep, 'Change' continues to be more of the same for the most part. It was sad see so many friends and members of the community here buy into the Obama hype during the campaign. Despite critizicim and evidence to the contrary that Obama would only continue to serve the interests of the imperium and capitalism it was very hard to convince anyone of this view. Now that he is in office and although there have been some notable moves in different directions, it seems all the more apparent that contiunaty is a more appropriate word to describe his administration. Perhaps engagement with Cuba will be forthcoming, but I fear this is only another sign that it is business as usual in Washington.
