United Soviet States of America?

Hey, what's going on?
First there was Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and now there is the wholesale nationalisation of AIG. Is the US turning socialist? Perhaps the government is looking into universal health care and land redistribution?
Whatever happened to: The Lexus and the Olive Tree, The Golden Straightjacket; There Is No Alternative, No two countries with a McDonalds have ever fought a war; Dog Eat Dog; Capitalism replenishing itself; Only the fittest survive; The End of History... and all the rest of the Neo-Con shite?
Milton Friedman must be turning in his grave.
Talking of Friedman's, what happened to Thomas? Has he been put out to graze in the forest?

Hello John,
This is David from France,
Your comment "what happened to Thomas Friedman?" makes me think that the same thing is happening here in France. But not only do we not see the usual advocates of neoliberalism - the ones that seemed to have baught season tickets for the main TV networks (namely TF1, France2, M6, etc. + cable) for the past 5 years - but all of a sudden at some debate about the financial crisis can we actually see Susan George, Amy Goodman, etc.! Two weeks ago I turned on the tube and on channel 3 I heard "do you know who said that 'all for us and nothing for the others seems to be the vile maxim of the masters of manking' ?"... I almost had a stroke hearing it! It was just Susan f***ng George on mainstream TV!!!.
We shall not forget that this is just a window opened for a limited amount of time and that we must not let go an opportunity to communicate as much as we can around us.
PS : The answer to George's question was of course 'Adam Smith'.

used in our favor.
we own these companies now. Bush might be bailing them out but he only did so by giving them to us, which could be beneficial.
of course the downside is we are not entirely sure of just how messy the beasts are that we just got.
