You Speak for Me

You Speak for Me

You speak for me once

And I don’t mind

You speak for me twice

And I shut up

You speak for me thrice

And I start to doubt

You speak for me a fourth time

And I don’t speak up

You speak for me a fifth time

And I boil inside

You speak for me a sixth time

And I get angry

You speak for me a seventh time

And I whisper “not in my name”

You speak for me an eighth time

And I say it out loud

You speak for me a ninth time

And I’ll scream it in the square

You speak for me a tenth time

And I’ll blow it up

You speak for me not

HEGEMONY

By Isaacs, Joel at Nov 02, 2010 05:13 AM

Tali Shapiro boldly took my suggestion that she write a poem with Hegemony as its inspiration. I had recently encountered and posted a definition that resonated in me.

HEGEMONY - The expression of the interests and world views of a particular social group or class so expressed as to pass for the interest and world views of the whole of society.
