Z MAGAZINE is an independent magazine of critical thinking on political, cultural, social, and economic life in the U.S. It sees the racial, gender, class, and political dimensions of personal life as fundamental to understanding and improving contemporary circumstances; and it aims to assist activist efforts for a better future. Z Magazine is a project of Z Communications (www.zcommunications.org). Other projects include: ZNet, Z Media Institute, and Z Video Productions, Z Books (forthcoming). We also host IOPS (see editorial this issue).

Z Magazine (ISSN 1056-5507) is published monthly except for a combined issue in July/August (Vol 7/8) by the Institute for Social and Cultural Communications. Submissions


ARTICLES: We welcome unsolicited submissions. Due dates are the 25th of each month. So articles received by November 25 will be considered for January, etc. Send them in word document or rich text format to lydia.sargent@zmag.org. Also include a two-sentence biography. Try to keep articles between 1,000 and 3,500 words.

LETTERS: Letters should be succinct and may be edited for length.

ZAP LISTINGS/ADS: We welcome short events listings, news releases, etc. Send by the first of the month for inclusion in the following month’s issue. Zap listings and display ads are free at our discretion. Send to zmag@zmag.org.

GRAPHICS: Cartoons, illustrations, photos are welcome.

Our staff collective (there are no bosses, executive directors, or hierarchical job assignments) includes: Lydia Sargent (Z Magazine, Z Videos, and Z Media Institute-ZMI); Eric Sargent (Z Magazine); Michael Albert (ZNet, ZMI).
 

Subscriptions to Z Magazine (print edition)


All subscription orders should be prepaid as we are unable to bill. Your subscription will start with the next available issue. Z should arrive by the fifth of each month at the latest (except for the July/August double issue, which should arrive around July 15). If you aren’t getting your Z, please email eric.sargent@zmag.org. If you cannot afford a subscription, please email zmag@zmag.org and we will work something out.

Renewals: same price as subscriptions; renewal notices are sent to U.S. subscribers with fewer than three issues due. International subscribers will not receive renewal notices (too expensive to send) so please note issues due on your label and renew when you have three issues to go.
 

Subscriptions to Z Magazine Online (ZMO)


The most recent five months of Z Magazine online (same content as print) to print subscribers and sustainers only (five articles of current issues are free as well). Archive articles are free to all. Sign up on this website. Note that print subscribers have access to Z Online, but need to sign in and get a password to gain access. It's easy and you can manage your own account.

Z is available in select bookstores. You can help by asking them to stock it. They can order Z by contacting Disticor Newsstand Services (mraucci@disticor.com).
 

Z Video Productions


Over 70 videos are available at our online Z Store; or email eric.sargent@zmag.org for a free catalog.
