TOUR - The Community and Resistance Tour is bringing radical speakers and media to towns across the U.S. through December and will be on the West Coast in October. Sponsored by various left media projects (such as Haymarket Books and Left Turn Magazine), the tour seeks to connect communities and to build relationships between grassroots activists and independent media.

EDUCATION - A National Day of Action to Defend Public Education is planned for October 7 with demonstrations, occupations, and teach-ins across the country. Since the last day of action on March 4, which saw the genesis of a mass movement, the campaign against privatization, cuts, and a top-down class war on the poor has taken off, but it needs to be sustained.

OCCUPATION - October 7 marks the 10-year anniversary of the U.S. invasion/occupation of Afghanistan. Local peace groups will mark the day with vigils, demonstrations, and educational events and interested individuals are encouraged to organize their own events.

CLIMATE - Climate action days are being planned for Sunday, October 10 and Tuesday, October 12. The carbon/climate connection group 350.org has registered over a thousand events and teach-ins around the world for 10/10/10, also called "A Day to Celebrate Climate Solutions" and also a "Global Work Party." Climate Justice Action has called for a Global Day of Action on October 12, the day that used to be imposed as Columbus Day, in conjunction with the Latin American network Global Minga.

IMF/WB PROTESTS - Protests against the elite International Monetary Fund and World Bank are being planned for October 9-11 in Washington, DC, during the groups' meetings there.

RNC PROTESTERS - Protesters who face draconian fines and prison terms for their non-violent political activism during from the 2008 Republican Convention are scheduled to go to trial on October 25 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Though one of the original eight defendants is opting for a plea agreement as of this writing, the other seven are continuing to trial. Supporters are urged to get informed and involved to help defend their civil rights.

EDUCATION FORUM - The World Education Forum (WEF) will take place in Palestine from October 28-31. Under the umbrella of the World Social Forum, the WEF is an annual thematic forum which seeks to uphold the concept of education as a fundamental human right.
