Doesn't NC regularly say Terrorism is primarily the weapon of the strong/powerful not the weak? Therefore I believe your title to be incorrect.

I agree with KK that there is a strangely obscurantist cast to IW's summary. But to dig deeper still, isn't the nature of "capital accumulation" itself the core macro issue? More accurately, the nature of this "ca...

This is an interesting article, but I was left with a bit of an unsated appetite. There is much in Michael Alberts' questions that is left unanswered. For instance, when Albert asks rationality and irrationality are, the answer is entirely abo...

Immanuel Wallerstein correctly depicts the Social-Democratic option as currently being an illusion, the Social-Democrats endlessly moving rightward in response to conditions. His analysis of the “conditions” causing this, however,&n...

Perhaps, since we are speaking of irrationality, it might be relevant to add a note here about some insights emerging from the field of neuroscience. For those interested see Sam Harris on "We are Lost in Thought". from ...

A slight oversight or something: the "city on a hill" is from the New Testament (Matthew 5:14). Winthrop saw "us" as "the light of the world."

This commentary needs editing, even if it is not supposed to be… Chomsky too often strays from the questions posed. It's as if in his encyclopedic brain he has so much information available that he loses the essential threads of the arg...

I could write a great deal about this, but I guess just making one central point would be better. It's hard to understand the point of the piece - honest debt is a moral thing, if I borrow a few dollars from you and then run off without paying...

In this responsibility of intellectuals I´m missing one mention: Christopher Hitchens. Is not he one of them, in any sense? In my opinion it would be a good idea to call for a public debate between Hitchens and Chomsky. Both have recognize t...

"The War on Terror" is ridiculous because terrorism is simply a symptom of the disease known as oppression - stop one, and the other disappears on its own...like a cancer that has nothing left to feed on. Today, 9/11/11, ...

Yes, violence can produce complete submission, docility and slavery, but then the violence still exists, does it not? We have not understood violence and therefore cannot hope to move beyond it (or anything else we do not understand.)
