Andrew Herd is currently a PhD student at the Australian National University, researching the issue of guestworkers, in particular Australia\'s 457 visa, in the era of \'globalisation\'. He received a Bachelor of Applied Economics in 1999 from the University of Canberra and a Master of Arts (Research) in Politics from the University of Wollongong in 2007. His MA thesis was Refugees in the 2001 Australian Federal Election: an Analysis Using the Backfire Model, which analysed how the Australian Government inhibited outrage over refugees during the election, in particular the Children Overboard Incident and the sinking of the SIEV-X.
He has published articles on migration (in particular refugees) and public action, and has an interest in these issues, along with politics and radical economics in both Australia and around the globe.
