Ellen Meiksins Wood, Professor Emerita of Political Science at York University, Canada, is the author of many books, including The Pristine Culture of Capitalism, The Origin of Capitalism, Empire of Capital, and most recently Citizens to Lords, the first volume of a social history of western political thought.  She was an editor of New Left Review from 1984 to 1993 and Co-Editor of Monthly Review from 1997 to 2000. less
