I'm 43, mom of 3, married going on 16 years. I stumbled upon information about Participatory Economics after becoming involved in my local food co-op. Over the years the focus on the 2nd cooperative principle of democratic involvement and had atrophied and the board and management had become rigid around the notion of staff being empowered to manage themselves. Members organized and...
Burrows, Paul | Canada
I am an activist and writer based in Winnipeg, Canada. I have a five year old son named Asher, who is near-certain proof o...
Roblin, Stephen | United States
I became political at a young age through my exposure to the daunting problems facing Baltimore city while playing basketball at a west side recreation council. In high school I was introduced to left activist/scholars such as Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky and others, who provided satisfying answers to questions I had about my society’s allowance for such gross inequalities and injustices. ...

I'm a twentysomething-year-old English BA graduate from UMSL, and I first heard about Znet and all the affiliated info in Parecon: Life After Capitalism Most of the time, I feel like an intellectual island in terms of sociopolitical thought. I've tried to explain to my friends what parecon is, but they either don't listen because they don't care, or they stop listen...

In Deer Hunting With Jesus Joe Bageant says "those who grow up in the lower class in America often end up class conscious for life" and so it has been with me.After leaving high school I worked as a gas station attendant for quite a few years and got let go from that job in one of the first job actions I was involved in. Klaschus, Dirk | Germany
I'm 40+ years old and living nearby Frankfurt a.M., Germany. I'm working on an alternative economic system, which is based on Parecon and can be put in practise relative easily. At the moment I'm trying to build up a citizens' movement in my hometown that will open up the first store to see if the concept is working. We are still in an early stage.
Atkinson, Lonnie | United States
2005 ZMI student. I currently live in South Bend, Indiana. Concerned with the lack of political courage and radical vision in today's music, I turned to songwriting as a form of activism. Free to the public, this work is intended not only as a vehicle for protest, but also as an organizing tool.
Help with Searching
The ZSearch facilities are powerful and extensive. They can be userd in diverse ways, all from the top Search Page. We have also, however, ueed them ourselves to provide particular focused searches. This page is an example.
In the filtering area you see that it comes with a default choice for account type. That means it is looking for Wrtiers or Sustainers, as noted. If you change the filter, for example, of course you will be searching amoung a different constituency.
You can also put in a name, or a locale to filter your find list further. You can also select a Group and see members who are Sustainers or Writers, or even from some locale, etc.
Of course the locale filter only works for people who have taken the time to enter their locale...so if you don't find many folks, it doesn't mean that they don't exist in the system. Instead, it could be they haven't entered where they are from....
So, in summary, sarch users by account type such as writer or sutainer, by first name, last name, by interest (where again, this only works for folks who entered one), group, or by location. Fill out your chosen feilds and then click the search button. Choose from among the results disaplayed or reset your search to start over.
