Born 1935 in Berlin, professor emeritus of sociology at the University of Muenster, Germany. Numerous publications on sociological theory, peace and conflict, social structure and class analysis, the media and power structure research. 1953-54 HICOG student at Mancelona High School, Mich., 1955-61 study of sociology, history, psychology and philosophy at universities in Montreal, Berlin, Graz, Vienna, Hamburg and Muenster, Ph.D.-thesis on utopian thinking. 1964-65 visiting lecturer at the Universidad Nacional, Bogotá, 1967 Associate and 1971 Full Professor and Director of the Institute of Sociology at the University of Muenster, becoming involved in radical politics, contributing to a special West German brand of Marxist sociology (class and systems analysis) and engaging in 'union-oriented' empirical research. 1976-91 member of the presidium of the World Peace Council and of the World Federation of Scientific Workers. 1991-95 numerous political documentaries for national German television (Spiegel TV, NDR) on the transitional changes especially in Russia. 1997-2000 in charge of a major 'European Popular Science Information Project' supported by the European Commission, producing films and developing teaching programmes on media competence etc. Since 2000 seminars on various aspects of the globalization process, research and consultation on power structures (i.e. 'Who owns the EU?') for ATTAC, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and the European Parliament (GUE/NGL). As of recent development of movie projects and literary ventures exploring the meaning of Karl Marx for the 21st century. My hopes for the RSP are - among other things - to give new meaning to concepts like 'democratic planning' and 'scientific socialism' within the context of a creative and enjoyable political culture combined with a precise unmasking of the (global) power elites.
