Born and raised in San Diego, I am currently a political science/film lecturer at San Diego State University and San Diego City College. In Fall of 2008 I worked to create an activist group called BEAT (Bringing Education and Activism Together) on the City College campus. We have over 1k students on our mailing lists after only 3 years and over 50 active members each semester who have helped to create a food pantry on campus for our homeless students, protested budget cuts, created a documentary about the impact cuts have on poor students of color and hosted a Voices of a People's History Event on campus each semester (just to name a few things). Through this group and my teacher's union we are creating an Employee Rights Center on campus that will help non-unionized workers to learn about their rights and to support them in grievances with employers. My time at ZMI in 2007 was incredible and I am so glad to meet more folks who support the Z family:)
