Ethnic Cleansing in Canada "St. Peter's Indian Reserve," north of Winnipeg, before the people were dispossessed and forcibly relocated between 1907 and the 1930s. An instance of ethnic cleansing, the dissolution of St. Peter's was a crime against humanity, not to mention a significant breach of Treaty 1 (1871), the only agreement conferring a semblance of a right to colonizers to dwell in southern Manitoba.

Institutions & Activism
In this column below are some of the institutions, worker-run collectives, and activist projects I have been involved with in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg A-Zone Old Market A-Zone (Winnipeg), founded 1995, houses an array of worker-run collectives and grassroots organizations, many of which are inspired by anarchism and participatory economics (parecon).
Mondragón Bookstore Cafe Mondragon Bookstore & Coffee House (Winnipeg), opened its doors on July 15, 1996, with an initial collective of ten members -- an example of participatory economics (parecon) in practice. For an in-depth article on this, see my article "Participatory Economics and Workers' Self-Management: Reflections on Winnipeg's Mondragon Bookstore and Coffee House Collective," in Chris Spannos (ed.), Real Utopia (AK Press, 2008). Originally a paper presented to the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil (2003), a ZNet version of this article can be found here: Parecon in Theory & Practice.
Two lovely colour photos of Mondragon can be viewed here and here.
A video on the Mondragon collective can be viewed here.
Rudolf Rocker Centre The Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre (Winnipeg) was founded in 2007 on the top floor of the A-Zone (Emma Goldman Building) at 91 Albert Street. A multi-purpose venue for events of interest to the anarchist and wider activist community, the Rocker has had everything from art gallery exhibits, punk rock shows, capoera classes, fund-raisers for grassroots organizations, Fringe Festival plays, book launches, as well as guest speakers, such as Ward Churchill, Ali Abunimah, Justin Podur, Michael Albert, and many others.
Canada Palestine Film Fest Canada Palestine Film Festival (Winnipeg) ran at the prestigious Cinematheque Theatre in 2004 and 2005. I am hoping to help resurrect this worthy project in the near future.
