Peter Stone is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Stanford University. His research includes theories of justice, democratic theory, rational choice theory, and the philosophy of social science. He is currently writing a book about random selection in politics. His academic website is at http://www.stanford.edu/~pstone.
A longtime activist, Peter is currently active working against the war and against attacks on civil liberties. He is also a militant "New Atheist" who strongly supports the recent efforts by Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and the like to make criticism of religion a legitimate public topic. (Peter rejects, however, the tendency of Harris and other atheists to use Islamic fundamentalism as an excuse for U.S. imperialism.)
He counts Bertrand Russell as one of his heroes--a principled and brave voice for reason against the forces of war, injustice, imperialism, jingoism, and religious fanaticism. For this reason, he recommends to everyone the Bertrand Russell Society, which exists to keep memory of Russell alive and to carry on Russell\'s legacy. (Noam Chomsky, another of Peter\'s heroes, is an Honorary Member of the Russell Society.)
