Uday Prakash's Profile

Born in a small village of Madhya Pradesh (India) in 1952, Uday Prakash lost his parents in his early childhood. He completed his education with excellent academic records. During his teaching assignment in Jawaharlal Nehru University, he lived two years in Imphal, the capital city of turbulent Manipur. Uday Prakash has a vast spectrum of experience and is seen as one of the most popular as well as controversial writers in India. His works are widely translated in all Major Indian and foreign languages.

At present Uday Prakash is a freelance writer, Journalist and filmmaker. Uday Prakash has been honoured with many awards. He  has participated in many International seminars, literary festivals held in various countries i.e.Germany, Netherlands, USA, Saouth Korea, and Italy.

English translation of his novella, Girl with Golden Parasol, (Published by Penguin India) by Jason Grunebaum was awarded PEN grant in 2005.

His publications in Hindi are: Peeli Chhatri Wali Ladki, Raat mein Harmonium, Dariyai Ghoda, Paul Gomra ka Scooter, Aur Ant mein Prarthana, Suno Karigar, Tirich, Ishwar ki Aankh, Areba Pareba, Mangosil, Ek bhasha Hua Karti hai, Mohan Das and Mangosil etc.

He takes interest and writes on humanright issues and is known to portray lives of people living in margins and edges of society. For this he has already paid heavy price in his country ruled and governed by a corrupt class of kleptocrats.
